The biological wealth of the wet forest offers the necessary resources
to facilitate the work of scientists and researchers in the areas
of virology, plant biology, genetic improvement, germplasm pools
of native plants, taxonomic studies of fauna and flora, etc.
Currently, research is being done on the domestication and bioaccumulation
of the active compounds of medicinal plants native to the Rio Palenque
forest. These projects are funded by the World Bank, through the
Program of Modernization of the Agricultural Services (Promsa).
For the purpose of the research, two laboratories have been setup,
one for in-vitro micropropagation and one for phytochemical analysis
with gas chromatography. There is also a research team with proper
technical and scientific skills.
